Even though Westjet's slogan says their staff are fun and friendly, I found the exact opposite when asking for company info and to do an information interview. An information interview is when you want to know more about a company than what's on their website, and you usually only ask for about 15 minutes to ask about company processes and philosophies. It is NOT a desperate plea for a job. The receptionist stonewalled me and refused to give out company info or connect me with someone knowledgeable about safety. Encouraged by my job coach, I tried again. A new receptionist, unfamiliar with Westjet's ways, transferred me to the Safety Evaluation department. When I asked the person who answered for an information interview, she HUNG UP on me! I called back in case it was a glitch and left a message, but never got a call back. It's been about a month. I've done many information interviews before, in person and over the phone, and never encountered such resistance to providing information. Apparently, Westjet has a reputation for being secretive, with receptionists stonewalling callers. This makes me think they have something to hide, which is a bad sign. Since it wasn't just one person, this rude behavior must be encouraged from the top. I've given up because I don't want to work for such a rude, non-transparent organization.

The interview began with some standard interview questions, then moved into specific reasoning questions. It lasted about an hour, and the people were all very nice. It was probably the most enjoyable interview I've had.

First there was an HR screening call, then a near full-day group interview. It was super awkward because everyone was really trying to stand out and push themselves. They had a bunch of group interview and case study things. There was a really short individual interview, only about 10 or 15 minutes, and no chance to ask questions. They also gave a short math test, like high-school level. The questions and tasks weren't too hard, but the whole environment felt really awkward and competitive.
