First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Western Michigan University.
Administrative Assistant
I was contacted about a part-time administrative assistant role since I was a full-time student. I met with a co-director and an office manager from an affiliated office. They explained the job thoroughly and asked me some thought-provoking questions. The main responsibilities included assisting students with class registration, informing them about course events and offerings, and ensuring directors were paid for their work in classrooms and off-campus events.
- What are your expectations?
Office Assistant
Found the job on BroncoJobs, WMU's student job board. Applied with a cover letter and resume. Waited about 2 weeks for a response. Got an email to set up interview times and locations. After that, replies took a day or two. Had one interview that focused on inclusiveness and the ability to work efficiently. It lasted 30-45 minutes and I got the offer.
- What's your best quality for this office/position?
Executive Assistant
The interview process was very long, and it took weeks to get a response after the initial interview. I had to reach out over a month later to ask for an update about a potential second interview. Right after I finally reached out, I received an automated rejection email. If I hadn't reached out, I might never have heard anything.
