I applied on indeed using just my resume. The pay wasn't listed. I got an email asking me to answer some prescreening questions, which took about 10 minutes. About a week later, I got another email to schedule a brief interview with the hiring manager on a third-party app that works like a group chat. The hiring manager got straight to the point from there. They sent me a link to complete an interview on Google Forms. I had 30 minutes to finish it but completed it in 15. The questions were actually good, and I needed a moment to think about how to answer them all. The hiring manager then described the job and the company, still without mentioning pay, all through text. The interview ended, and they said they'd contact me if I got the job. The very next afternoon, I got my offer letter, which was more than I expected.

Behavioral Technical Case

The hiring process for retail management begins with an online application, followed by a meeting with the store manager. At the store level, I had discussions with both the store manager and the lead assistant manager. Having prior retail experience and knowledge of the "Boating Market" is beneficial for getting a role on the sales floor. Management positions involve an initial computer analysis (lasting about two hours or more), then a one-hour phone interview with two district managers. This interview focused on my abilities and my vision for the manager position. About a week later, I had a phone interview with two retail store managers. After the interview, I questioned how they had become store managers themselves. Their questions seemed poorly prepared, and they appeared uncertain when I asked about the store's current P&L and staffing, which were relevant to the position I was interviewing for.

  • How might you grow store revenue?
