First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WellCare.
Software Engineer
So I got a call from an HR recruiter first, and we just did a quick chat about my resume and basically screened me. After that, the manager and the software lead for the team called me in for a phone interview. Since it was an entry-level job, it was mostly about my background and school stuff, with just one technical question. Then, I had an in-person interview where I met with the same manager and software lead, plus two other team members. We talked more about my resume, my background, and the job itself. They asked me two more technical questions.
- How would you print the letters of a string containing your name?
- Could you describe your background and academic experiences?
- Can you elaborate on your resume and past experiences?

So first there was a phone interview, and then I had an in person interview. The in person was with the manager, and we talked about process and standards. After that, I met with some developers, and we chatted about my experience and coding techniques. Finally, I met with a project manager and a business analyst, who I would be working with on projects. We discussed how important it is to give good estimates and get code done on time with good quality. They also asked me about unit testing and if I can write technical specifications.
- Can you share details about your past development projects?
- Tell me about your experience with coding techniques.
- How do you ensure code is delivered on time with good quality?

I was interviewed for Detroit office! They seem to be associated with Meridian, WellCare, or Centene, but their identity was unclear! It was a terrible and unprofessional experience due to a recruiter who kept making mistakes with my interview dates! The process was repetitive with two technical interviews. The first was more advanced, which I passed, leading to a second interview where the interviewer asked random programming questions from various languages, using obscure terms not common in daily programming. Ultimately, the recruiter sent an email stating they were 'Passing on You.' Fortunately, I had already decided to 'pass on them' during the interview itself! Their approach felt outdated, resistant to adopting new technologies, and they asked nonsensical questions for a senior developer.
