Sales Associate
They do a phone screen first, then you go to the office for an in person interview, and the final round is a mock sales pitch. It seems they've shortened the in person part, they give you a quick office tour then you head to a conference room for interviews. For both interview sets, there was one manager in person and one on the phone. They asked standard sales questions. Since I had prior sales experience, they had me pitch things I'd actually sold before instead of random products. The mock sales pitch is the toughest part, make sure you do your research beforehand!
- How would you say you stack up against the current team members?
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
- Can you give me a pitch for the product/service you currently sell?
Sales Associate
I went to their office, got a tour, and then interviewed with two pairs of women. I also shadowed someone. The office was great, and the interviewers were young and nice. The questions weren't super hard, but there were a lot of them. I felt confident, and they were welcoming, so it seemed to go really well, and we were all laughing by the end. Then came the tricky part. After passing the initial interview, I had a sales pitch over the phone. For an entry-level job with no experience needed, it was really intimidating and tough. I had one day to learn about WeddingWire products and then had to pitch to a fake client who was totally uninterested the whole time. I had to try to close the deal like 6 times, even though in real sales calls, you'd probably back off. I also had to send a follow-up email to this fake client. I've never done sales before and had no training. So, even with all the prep, it's super hard if you don't have cold calling experience. It was funny because the one phone call I heard when I shadowed an employee ended quickly when the client said she wasn't interested. I didn't get an offer, and honestly, I didn't really want it. I'm outgoing, confident, and eager to learn, and I did great in the first interview. I think WeddingWire puts too much emphasis on this difficult sales pitch for new grads new to sales.
- Can you name 3 qualities that make a good salesperson?
- Describe a challenging situation you faced in a previous job.
- What past work experience do you have that is relevant to sales?
Sales Associate
The interview process had three stages. The first stage was a phone screen with recruiters/VP of people where they asked about my interest in sales. The second stage was an in-person interview at their Chevy Chase, Md. office, which was modern and unique with alcohol bottles around, reflecting their office culture. I was given a company presentation about culture and benefits. I also met with hiring managers who asked questions based on my background. The third stage was a phone pitch interview. It was tough because I had no prior sales experience. It was frustrating that college grads were competing with experienced sales professionals. WeddingWire should be upfront if prior sales experience is crucial, as it puts inexperienced candidates at a disadvantage, especially in a phone pitch scenario. I felt the process was a bit unfair.
- What are the top three most crucial elements for a sales role?
- Tell me why you are interested in pursuing a career in sales.
