First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WebstaurantStore.
Content Specialist
It wasn't really an interview, more like a personality quiz, like they just pick friends. She didn't ask about my skills for growing the company or find out I work for their main competitor through an agency, or that I've admired them for ages. So, it was a shame for both of us. I'm sure management would want to know this interview process is happening and that the interviewer is just picking based on who she likes. It might filter out some neurodivergence and different thinking, but it's not picking skilled or qualified people. The interviewer even said she likes to make the questions 'a little different' just 'cause she likes to be different. I don't think the interviewer should be trying to entertain themselves. The whole thing felt negative, focusing on 'what's your weakness,' 'tell me about conflict,' and 'what demotivates you.' This 'interview' really changed my view of Webstaurant. I'll probably just stick with their competitor.
- What are you weakest at?
- Can you share an instance where you learned from a teammate or leader and how it affected you?
- Describe a situation where you received criticism, how it affected you, and how you responded.
Digital Content Manager
Applied online on Tuesday, got an email almost immediately to schedule a phone interview with a content specialist. After that, they said I'd hear back in a week, but I got a call the next morning to set up the second round with two other digital content managers. Had that interview, and right away the next day got a call to schedule the third and final interview with two Directors in the Content teams. Sent a thank you email after, but got no replies (we're all busy, I get it). They said I'd hear back in a week. After almost 2 weeks, no word, so I followed up with the person who set it all up. Instead of a quick personal reply, they sent a boilerplate rejection email just a few minutes after my follow-up. As a leader who has hired hundreds, this was cold and felt rude given how interested they seemed and how fast we moved. Also noticed some issues - they talked a lot about how fast they're growing and can't keep up, so watch out future applicants. Didn't hear from HR or TA at all, another red flag.
- Tell me about two leadership challenges you've faced.
- Can you share two leadership successes you've had?
Content Writer
They had three rounds for the interviews. The first was with the recruiter, the second with some managers, and the last one was with upper management. All the interviews were pretty standard and everyone was really friendly. They asked a bunch of questions to understand personality, experience, and how you work. It was a really straightforward and nice experience, nothing weird at all; I actually liked talking to everyone during the interview stages.
- What are your expectations or desires in a manager?
