First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wealthsimple.
Account Manager
Before applying, I researched Wealthsimple's business and value proposition for Canadians. I felt a connection to Wealthsimple's values and mission, so I applied online for a role that seemed like a good fit for my skills and aspirations. I was looking forward to a phone interview and prepared thoroughly. While I know HR screener interviews are generally high-level, my experience was disappointing. From the start of the call, the recruiter seemed to be just going through the motions. She quickly summarized Wealthsimple and then asked about my current role. I was interrupted repeatedly when trying to explain my responsibilities. I struggled to get my points across as she kept moving on to the next topic. The most unprofessional moment was when she swore ('Sh*t') while discussing Wealthsimple and then casually continued the conversation. While I understand some companies are fast-paced, professionalism is essential. I felt the recruiter lacked the necessary skills for this role. Although Wealthsimple seems to have a great company culture, I believe they are losing out on good talent due to unprofessional and unskilled recruiters (or at least the few they have on LinkedIn). With over 10 years in the Canadian workforce, this HR screener was undoubtedly the worst interview experience I've had. I suggest addressing this or providing more training to your recruiters.
- Can you describe your current job responsibilities?
Account Manager
It started with a phone screen with the recruiter, a quick call to chat about my background and get a feel for the team and role. Then, I had a take-home assignment that included a mock portfolio review and a client FAQ. After that, I had a phone interview with the team lead to dive deeper into my experience and what I could bring to the table, and they also shared more details about the role's expectations. The next step was an in-person presentation based on the take-home assignment, followed by a one-on-one with the team lead. Finally, I had a one-hour onsite interview with two different team leaders from other business units.
- What makes you interested in Wealthsimple?
Account Manager
The interview process included two phone calls (one with HR, one with a W4A team member), then a take-home task, and finally 3 in-person interviews with the team. Everyone I spoke with was really nice and easy to talk to, making the interviews feel very conversational. It was a pretty thorough process overall, which gave me a solid grasp of what the job entails and the company culture at Wealthsimple.
- Could you share an instance where you received constructive feedback?
