First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at WD.
Industrial Engineer
The interview process was quite unusual. I ended up speaking with various engineers from the team, and I was supposed to meet with someone else. It felt very laid-back, and they didn't ask many questions related to the job, almost as if they had already decided on hiring me.
- Can you describe your previous work experiences?
- Could you answer some fundamental behavioral questions?
Process Engineer
The interview was very professional. I was asked a lot of professional questions. I answered very comprehensive questions about welfare benefits. I was told to pay attention to the process of semiconductor technology. I respect people and have a great experience.
- Could you provide a detailed explanation of the semiconductor manufacturing process?
Process Engineer
I had an initial call with HR who then scheduled my interview for 3 business days later. The interview involved 8 people. I was given a list of interviewers and their positions, but it was out of date and one of the first people I spoke to was actually a VP! They interviewed me generally in order of rank, with the hiring manager being the third person. Most interviewers asked about my past work, which I had slides for. They were mostly friendly, except for one person who was confrontational and kept trying to find flaws in my technical comments, even asking to see my papers. Another interviewer, who was very friendly, didn't ask me any questions but instead spent the whole time talking about the company's financial outlook and his frustrations with some process engineers. They all mentioned that working there is intense and fast-paced. Only a few gave me business cards. The last person I spoke to was the HR rep from the initial call, who discussed the compensation and benefits, and surprisingly knew a lot about the technical side and future products.
- What would you do if your technical results are not accepted by an audience?
- How would you handle a situation where your technical results are rejected by an audience?
