First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wayflyer.
Software Engineer
I had some back and forth with 2 recruiters over 3 weeks before scheduling my HR screening. The recruiter seemed unprepared, not having reviewed my CV, as she asked about technologies already listed. She also asked questions about company cultural values and how I'd handle situations related to them. When I asked about the company/department, she struggled to answer and seemed distracted.
- Can you share an instance where you delivered critical feedback respectfully, aligning with our 'kind over nice' principle?
Software Engineer
The interview process involved a total of 3 interviews spread across a week, in addition to a take-home tech test that took about 3-4 hours. The turnaround between interviews was quick, and all interviewers were very pleasant. They often encouraged us to ask questions, making the interviews feel more like conversations. First, there was a 30-minute screening interview with a recruiter. This was followed by a 45-minute screening with a Senior Engineer. Next was a take-home test, which seemed fair and relevant to the job; it was designed to be completed in about 3 hours using any language, though I didn't finish it. After they reviewed and approved the tech test, we moved to the final stage, which consisted of three consecutive interviews lasting around 2 hours. The first part was a 1-hour session with another senior engineer where we discussed the tech test and did some paired programming to further develop the solution. It turned out that not completing the tech test within the suggested time wasn't a major issue. Then, a 30-minute interview with a product owner focused on questions about working with product teams and agile methodologies. Finally, there was a 30-minute "culture" interview with another engineer, covering general questions.
- What would you do if you were uncertain about how to proceed with a particular ticket or story?
Senior Software Engineer
The interview process started with an initial call with HR, followed by a technical interview. Then there was a take-home assignment, another technical interview, a culture fit interview, and finally an interview with a product manager. Overall, the process was good, and the people I met were friendly and skilled. My only complaint is the number of stages. Most other companies I interviewed with only had two interviews, sometimes with a coding test. But, the company did respond quickly between stages, so I wasn't left waiting.
- Complete an engineering task as a take-home assignment
- Discuss the take-home engineering task in a follow-up technical interview
