First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Wave.
Senior Software Engineer
CV + Cover Letter, then a 30min initial HR screening, followed by a 2h take home exercise which was very fun! Then, there was a 2h live continuation of the previous exercise, a 1h system design discussion, a 1h deep dive into a previous project, and finally a 1h cultural fit interview. It was a very thorough but fair process. Everyone involved was very warm, pleasant, and dedicated. Made me want to work there even more!
- Tell me about a system design problem tailored to one of the projects I would be working on.
Software Developer
So the interview process for a dev role is pretty long. First, you have a chat with HR to see if you're a fit. Then, there's a coding challenge, and after that, a debugging assessment. Following that, a system design interview. Just because you passed one part doesn't mean you're good to go. My debugging wasn't great, but they still had me do the system design interview a week later, which I aced. Apparently, I didn't get the job because of the debugging part. Also, HR kept forgetting about meetings and didn't tell me when they were canceled.
- Can you describe how you would design and build YouTube?
Software Engineer
The interview process at Wave was really enjoyable! All the employees I met were super friendly, which made the interviews feel pretty relaxed. They also shared their personal experiences at Wave, leaving a great impression. The process had quite a few steps: first, an initial call with the recruiter. Then, a take-home coding exercise where I could use either Python or JS. After that, there was a 2-hour pair programming interview where I had to add some extra features to the take-home test. Next up was a 1-hour system design interview. I also had a 45-minute chat with the engineering manager of the team I might join – it was mostly behavioral questions but felt more like a casual conversation. Following that, a 30-minute interview with the product manager for the team, similar to the previous one but with a product focus. Finally, a reference check. It was great that I got feedback for all stages either the same day or the next, and I received an offer the day after my last interview.
- Can you share an instance where you received constructive feedback and how you acted on it?
- What are your concerns or hesitations about joining Wave?
