The recruitment for the Learning and Development Specialist role at Wave involved a few steps. First, there was a screening interview to see how my experience fit the job. Then, I had a writing test where I had to make training material and then teach it to some managers. Lastly, there was a culture fit interview to check if my values and how I work were a good match for the company.

Behavioral

The initial interview was conducted via Zoom. The recruiter's video was off, and he had to mute his audio because his daughter was ill and at home. I didn't feel a personal connection with the recruiter and it was like talking to myself the entire time. After I finished speaking, I'd have to ask if he was still there since he had muted himself. I'd advise recruiters to conduct online interviews when they are in a suitable environment.

Behavioral Case Presentation

The initial phone/video chat was fine. The recruiter knew their stuff but didn't have an answer for salary questions. A few days later, I got a case study with a three-hour deadline. I asked for an extension due to work and other commitments, and they granted it. After submitting the case study, I was congratulated and invited to the next interview. I provided my availability and was scheduled, but the interview was canceled the next day with no explanation. I had to follow up via email to see if they wanted to reschedule, including the hiring manager. Still no response. It seems like ghosting is a common issue, and basic courtesy to update candidates is missing. Honestly, if this is how they treat applicants, I can't imagine how they treat employees. I was hoping to wait to post this, but I would decline any offer. Wave Mobile, I wish you the best. My advice to recruiters: ghosting is unprofessional and not cool; even an automated email is better than silence.
