Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Water Grill.
Server
I interviewed for a PM server position. I was also offered an AM bartending role, which I declined. They were nice about it, but they should have made sure the role was correctly labeled when I first applied.
- What defines you as a hospitality professional?
Server
The interview process was pretty good and easy to follow. They want to assess your ability to solve problems. You'll be presented with some menu items and asked to suggest pairings, so you definitely need to know your wine, beer, and cocktails. The first interview was with a manager, and then the second one was with the General Manager. The only negative part was that I had to wait more than an hour after my interview was supposed to start before someone met with me.
- Can you describe a situation where a guest was unhappy and how you resolved it?
- Given these menu items, what wine, beer, and cocktail pairings would you suggest?
Server
It was a typical corporate interview with impersonal questions. The staff appeared disorganized and flustered. The manager frequently left to attend to other tasks, offering apologies. Generally, no one seemed happy to be there, and the overall atmosphere felt stressful and unwelcoming.
- Tell me about a time you made a mistake.
