Account Executive
I got recruited through LinkedIn for this Account Executive role and the initial calls with the recruiter, manager, director, and a C-suite exec were mostly fine, although they weren't great about respecting my time with postponements and one interviewer even took a call from their car. They seemed to like my sales skills during these Zoom calls. The final round, however, was a disaster. They had me create a mock-demo from scratch with minimal instructions, asking me to sell WalkMe's entire product suite. The instructions were conflicting – asking for slides showing a deep understanding of their platforms for a discovery call (even though an SDR already did discovery) and also to sell the whole catalog. They just pointed me to their website for info. It felt like a setup to fail, especially with no prior tech experience in this specific area. I asked for clarification via email and phone but only got vague responses. On the presentation day, only two out of three interviewers showed up. Those who did questioned every part of my slides rudely, and one interviewer seemed completely disengaged. They asked me to rate myself on a 1-10 scale, explicitly saying not to give a 7. I gave myself a 6, mentioning the effort and external feedback I sought, but they told me I got a 5 and should have done better if I worked that hard. Based on other reviews, I probably dodged a bullet. It was the most unprofessional interview experience I've ever had.
- Can you tell me the story of your career to date?
Strategic Account Executive
The interview process was just as the internal recruiter described it would be (which help set my expectations): 4-6 weeks from initial phone screen to offer. Each member of the team I met with via video conference was great, allowing ample time for me to ask them questions and for them to ask questions of me. After the phone screen with the recruiter, initial conversation with the hiring manager, the panel interview, they requested a mock discovery and presentation which required a good amount of prep (no different than if it were for a live prospect). During the same presentation session they also requested I present an account plan. Then a final interview with the VP of Sales would conclude the process resulting in a yes/no decision. Overall the process was smooth until the very end when, during the final interview, I realized the VP of Sales was asking questions about my experience that were clearly outlined on my resume (e.g. how much experience do you have selling Saas when my entire career has been spent selling SaaS!), only to realize he was using my LinkedIn profile instead - almost trying to find an 'ah-ha' to not progress me through the process. Strange.
- Could you tell me about the major companies you have sold to previously?
- What is your background and experience in selling SaaS?
- Can you describe the sales process or methodology that you typically employ?
Account Executive
The process started off well, but then the company went quiet after two rounds. The recruiter did try to get back in touch about a week later, but didn't stick to the times they mentioned. After that, there was no more news or contact from them.
