Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Waldorf Astoria.
Server
It took about a month to hear back after I applied. The interview itself lasted about four hours, including a three-hour wait time at Morton's Steak House. I was interviewed by three managers from different hotel positions. They asked me a bunch of questions about my background in customer service and hospitality, and how I would handle difficult or demanding customers.
- What is your definition of luxury?
- Can you tell me about your customer service and hospitality experience?
- How would you handle picky guests?
Cook
It was a really thorough interview process, very focused and detailed, but not intimidating at all. They gave me plenty of time to think through my answers and present them well. It had three parts: first with the HR manager, then the department manager, and finally the general manager. Overall, it was a great experience!
- Can you describe your previous work experience?
Line Cook
It was pretty easy. They asked some basic cooking questions during a video call. Then I met with HR. After that, I interviewed with the executive chef and got the job. It was overall very easy. I had to do a cooking test and a presentation.
- Tell me about your goals.
- Can you describe your personality?
- What's your experience like at other jobs?
