A few weeks after I applied, the recruiter reached out to set up a phone screen. We talked broadly about the company and the role, and my background. We also talked about salary on that call. After that, I had a 45-minute interview with the hiring manager. It was mostly behavioral, asking standard "tell me about a time when" questions. I enjoyed it, and the hiring manager wanted me to advance. However, the recruiter informed me they were moving forward with other candidates who were further along in their process, so no more interviews happened.
- Can you share an instance of a challenging employee situation you encountered and explain how you handled it?
Education Coordinator
Had 5 interviews total: HR screen, hiring manager screen, skills interview, culture interview, and an interview with the VP of education. Also did a take home assignment after the hiring manager screen. Everyone was really nice and HR was quick with scheduling the next interviews. I got through all the steps and then got the automatic email saying they're moving on with other candidates after the final interview. Not sure what they were looking for, but 5 interviews and a take home assignment for what's basically an entry level role seems like a lot.
- What is your motivation for applying to this Education Coordinator role?
Customer Success Manager
Applied a few months ago and got no response, then a recruiter reached out about the role. The first step was a 30-minute recruiter screening call, then a call with the VP. After that, there were two 30-minute "value" interviews with random company folks to check for cultural fit. Right after those, I got an email saying the position was filled, implying they had someone else in mind. But, they offered me another role to interview for, which I accepted. The next interview was a video call with the hiring manager, which went well. Then, I was invited to the final stage: a take-home assignment followed by an onsite presentation. I had to chase them twice for the assignment details. I spent a lot of time on the research and presentation, went to their office to present, and got good feedback. Despite that, I received a generic "sorry we are moving forward with another candidate..." email. It seems like they had other candidates lined up for this role too, and I was just a backup. Given the time commitment, I expected a more personal response than a non-reply system email.
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how would your last three managers grade your performance, and can you explain why?
Education Team Member
So, first I had a phone screen, and then I had to chase them for updates several times. After like 3 weeks and a bunch of follow-ups, the hiring manager finally called me. Two weeks and three more follow-ups later, they wanted me to do a 'culture interview.' They mentioned an assignment next, which I thought was a bit of a red flag because, you know, I don't do free work. Then, silence for FOUR MONTHS. After all that, they let me know the position wasn't available anymore. Total waste of my time.
