First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vulcan Materials.
Category Manager
I interviewed for three different procurement positions. About 10 people interviewed me, and I was told two of the hiring managers really wanted me and were competing for me. Then they totally ghosted me. They didn't follow up, and they won't respond to emails or texts. HR really dropped the ball; they should at least have the guts to tell me I didn't get the job and why.
- Focus on supplier relationships, working closely with manufacturing sites, and bringing value to meetings at the sites.
Dispatcher
I went to the first interview which seemed to go well. Panel of three, all very nice and made me feel comfortable. Heard nothing for about three weeks and then called back for a second interview with another panel of three. It seemed very promising. I was told that I would hear back from them by Wednesday (5 days). It has now been going on three weeks and I have heard nothing. If they would have followed up with an email stating I did not get the position, I would have given the overall experience a thumbs up. That is the least a company can do after taking the time to interview twice. I did find that many of the employees there have at least 15 years with the company which is a good sign.
- Have you ever weighed trucks to confirm they are at the legal weight?
Office Manager
I was contacted for a second interview and was really excited. The recruiter mentioned she would call me either way. I was let down because I felt good about my interview performance, but I never got a call back to let me know if they decided to move forward with another candidate. I think that's the minimum they could do since I made time in my schedule and arrived on time for both interviews, and their mission statement emphasizes respect.
- Tell me about a general situation you faced.
- Describe a situation you encountered.
Sales Analyst
Got a call from the main recruitment manager. We talked about the job and what they were looking for, and also my background in construction materials. They said they'd send my application to the hiring manager at the location, and I should hear back for another interview sometime that week.
- Can you describe your current responsibilities and explain how they align with the requirements of this role?
- What is your experience within the construction materials sector?
