I got a cold call and they asked me some questions over the phone, then they asked me to come in for an interview. I went to their office for a quick 30-minute interview with a manager. The manager explained that the job was basically standing in a big box store like Home Depot selling services like DirectTV and AT&T. I wasn't impressed because the ad posting and initial phone conversation weren't transparent about the position. They do mention it's a direct marketing position, but calling it a 'marketing coordinator' when it's exclusively sales is a red flag. If you're into sales, this might be a good fit. But if you're a recent grad looking to learn about strategy, branding, CRM, search, or other marketing areas, this probably isn't it and you should keep looking. I decided it wasn't for me and turned down a second interview.

I sent in my application online. When I got to the office for my interview, it felt really professional. I made sure to bring my resume like they asked, so when I had to fill out the company application, it was super easy because I could just attach my resume. I met with the manager, and she was really nice. We had a good chat. It was short and to the point. Then, they called me with an offer for a second interview! I was so stoked. For the second interview, I went with one of the top account managers to a store and got to see firsthand how the job actually works. After I had a good idea of what the job entailed, he asked me how I felt about it. I thought it sounded like something I could totally do and would be fun. That second interview lasted about an hour. I ended up getting the job, and I'm still really happy here six months later.

Applied online via LinkedIn, and a few days later, I had an in-person interview. I hadn't researched the company on Glassdoor yet, but I could tell this wasn't the type of marketing I wanted. After researching, I was sure it wasn't for me. I still went to the interview because I didn't have time to cancel. Since I didn't want to do retail product demonstrations, I told the interviewer I preferred digital marketing over traditional in-person marketing. This company is great if you like doing product demos in retail stores.
