Software Engineer
Had a recruiter call and then technical interviews online. Mostly abstract tech interviews. I think they should add a feature like a whiteboard for writing code to their platform. The process itself is efficient, the recruiter was nice, but in the tech interview I didn't connect well to one of the two interviewers - he had a very different communication style than me.
- Can you describe your projects?
- Which specific technologies have you utilized?
Software Engineer
The whole thing was pretty fast. Started with a quick chat with the Director of Engineering about what I've done lately and what they need. Then, a bunch of quick tech questions, mostly about fixing stuff like SQL queries. After that, I got an in-person coding test 2 days later. The dev manager watched me do it for an hour. Since I passed, I immediately went into more talks with people from dev, QA, architecture, and so on. These talks were more about high-level design and architecture.
- For the coding portion, there was a sorting algorithm problem requiring a specific way to sort objects, blending DSA and OOP concepts.
- For the discussion parts, the focus was on design and architectural topics like event-driven architecture and the trade-offs between message queues and cache.
Software Developer
I did a 2 hour test, and I thought I did well. I had an interview lined up, and they confirmed it with me the day before. But then, the night before, they cancelled it without giving me any reason. It might have been because of covid-19, but it was still unprofessional. They had a phone call the week before saying they were looking to hire a lot of graduates, then they gave me a test, and confirmed the interview several times, only to cancel it the night before. It just seemed amateur.
