I applied online. Their application system is old, buggy, and likely two decades old. It forces manual data entry. You can upload only one resume, and each time you apply for a position, it uses your latest resume for all previous applications. This means if you tailor resumes for specific jobs, you might mess up older applications. I submitted five carefully prepared applications before realizing weeks later they had all been overwritten.

I was contacted by a recruiter from CyberCoders. My initial phone interview was in October. The whole process of scheduling and communication with both VW and CyberCoders was really unprofessional and frankly insulting. They were slow to respond, making me wait until late December for the onsite interview. The onsite itself went well. VW's recruiter then called me, saying the team really liked me and that they'd send over an offer in early January. She even offered to expedite it if I was in a rush. In the first week of January, they mentioned some paperwork needed to be finalized before the offer. I followed up in mid-January, asking about the status and if they could speed things up. To my surprise, the same recruiter claimed they never promised an offer and that they were still interviewing other candidates!

I applied online and was contacted by HR about two weeks later to set up a technical phone interview. This call lasted about an hour and involved discussing my ideas for intelligent and connected vehicle research, along with C++ programming questions covering inheritance, virtual member functions, and destructors. HR then called me a week later to arrange an on-site interview. The on-site involved meeting with around five or six people, including managers and engineers. The interviews focused more on machine learning, my past experiences, and research vision, along with some algorithm questions. It felt like a collaborative discussion rather than an adversarial one, which was a refreshing change from some other tech interviews.
