First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Voice of America.
Editor
The interview was smooth and took about 20 to 30 minutes. The interviewers were friendly and not intimidating. I was asked about my knowledge of the company and the current media situation.
- How did you first get acquainted with our company?
Intern
I had an online interview for an internship at Voice of America during the pandemic, which was conducted via Google Meet. The interviewers asked relevant questions, but communication was a bit unclear, and the interview got delayed a few times.
- Were there questions based on your resume?
- Did you have any casual talk during the interview?
Broadcaster Producer
Got referred by someone. After the referral, I had a call and spoke with 3 people. Then, an in-person interview was set up. The interview day was long, involving a translation part, an on-air interview, broadcast reading, a one-on-one, and finally a panel interview. It was tough but also challenging, making it a memorable interview experience.
- What unique contributions can you make to our team?
- Do you have the dedication to commit to the necessary effort?
International Broadcaster
It was easy, they took me to the waiting area. Getting through the gates was a hustle because of security. I was subjected to a full-body scan and search. I arrived 15 minutes early and it took me 20 minutes to be processed for the search. If you're going there, make sure you arrive at least 30 minutes early because getting through the security is crazy on a good day. The interview lasted 2 hours. I was grilled on previous history, domicile, and international assignments (I was applying for that job after a stint with RT and CNN).
- Regarding your past jobs, what abilities do you have?
- Are you able to function on a deadline?
- What's your take on media ethics?
