First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vista.
Senior Software QA Engineer
Hr set up my interview about a month or two after I applied. The interview was in Ahmedabad. Two people interviewed me, one developer and one QA. It lasted about an hour and a half. They asked about my thought process and my previous company's QA process. They also gave me a scenario on a whiteboard and asked me to write test scenarios for one functionality. They said they would send me a test to complete later. But then, they never sent the test, and HR didn't reply to my emails or reminders. After about a week, HR finally emailed saying they were moving on with other candidates. So, future candidates should be aware of this company's process. The HR is unresponsive, and they don't explain why you're rejected.
- Could you provide test scenarios for a given functionality on the whiteboard?
- How would you approach solving real-time bug tracking or identifying the root cause of issues?
- Can you explain some general QA terms?
Quality Assurance Engineer
So, first HR set up a technical phone interview with a QA engineer. It was about an hour long and covered a lot of ground. After I passed that, I went in for a face-to-face interview that lasted half a day. There were four different interviewers, and Vistaprint even sponsored lunch. I was in this small room with a board. The first part was with an automation engineer, covering OOP basics and a coding exercise, then DBMS questions, and writing SQL queries on a given DB design on the board. The second round was about QA methodologies. The third was problem-solving. We had lunch, and then the fourth round was with the QA manager, focusing on behavioral and past experience questions. HR did a wrap-up at the end. They said they'd decide in two days but I haven't heard back yet.
- How difficult was the process given its length?
QA Engineer
You apply online, and HR reaches out to schedule a phone interview with the hiring manager. This call includes background questions and sometimes a technical question for more technical roles. If you pass, you're invited for an onsite interview. For new grads, it's a 'Super Day' where they take you out and you interview with multiple people. For QA, it's a bit smaller with 3 interviews: one on abstract problem-solving (estimation), one technical (SQL or OO code), and one behavioral (mostly background).
- Could you design a database for an airline and provide some example queries?
- What's your approach to estimating the number of ping pong balls that would fit inside a bus?
- How would you estimate the quantity of soap bars required for an entire state?
