First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Visionworks.
General Manager
I applied online for a sales associate role and was hired after one interview. I advanced to third key quickly and after a year, I applied for retail supervisor but didn't get it. Six months later, I reapplied, interviewed with the RVP in person, and then had a phone interview with the T.D. to get the retail supervisor position. In less than six months in that role, I was promoted to General Manager.
- Were the questions difficult? They were all basic business questions.
General Manager
I submitted an application online for the General Manager position at EyeMasters (soon to be VisionWorks) after seeing the ad on CareerBuilder.com. The very next day, they contacted me about attending an open house job fair at one of their stores. I attended and completed a paper application, where I had to state a specific desired salary, as 'negotiable' was not an option. Following that, I had a 45-minute conversation with the store's general manager, who asked standard questions about customer service, handling employee conflicts, and problem-solving. The district manager was also present and spoke with me for about 30 minutes, focusing on my understanding of the demanding nature of retail management, including hours, weekends, and holidays. I confirmed my willingness to work under those conditions. Ultimately, they concluded I lacked sufficient experience in the eye care industry for a management role and suggested gaining experience at a store level, with the possibility of a fast-track to management due to their rapid expansion. However, I could not accept this offer as the proposed hourly and commission pay did not meet my salary requirements.
- Can you share an instance from a prior role where you delivered exceptional customer service?
- How would you address a situation where you suspect an employee is falsifying sales data in the software?
General Manager
The interview process was pretty standard and quite formal. I got asked about my leadership skills and optical knowledge. There were two rounds of interviews and I was given an offer. The benefits they provide are good. They also inquired about customer experience.
- Can you share your reasons for wanting to join our company?
