So I interviewed with Virtu back in Sept 2024. It was a super long process, took like 3 months and around 9 interview rounds in total. It took about two weeks to hear back after each round, on average. All that time and effort, and I barely got any feedback, and then got rejected after 3 months. I also heard from friends that sometimes they reject you based on earlier stuff that never got brought up again, which is kinda weird.

The interview process was really smooth and I felt like I knew what was going on. They asked a good mix of questions, ranging from general personality stuff to more in-depth technical ones. These technical questions covered areas like brain teasers, statistics, and even some coding.

Applied online, then got an email from HR asking to resubmit application (presumably to double check). Afterwards I was sent a link to an online coding test - 5 questions, 75 mins. Test was difficult - you can write in any programming language available (Python, C++, etc.) but fair warning, these are not simple programming trivia questions. You will need to know how to manipulate variables and write complex functions effectively. Each question took me around 10 mins just to understand what it was asking.

- Given a positive integer x, write a function to compute the minimum steps to reach the nearest Fibonacci number by incrementing or decrementing x by 1. For instance, if x=15, the output should be 2 because 13 is the closest Fibonacci number (15-1-1=13).
