I found this job through a college career fair. About two weeks after dropping off my resume, HR gave me a call. The process included one phone interview followed by six on-site interviews, which was a superday. It was a really great experience. After passing the phone interview, I flew to San Jose, CA. The company paid for a nice hotel, the DoubleTree, which was close to Virtual Instruments. Everyone there was super nice and it felt like home. Virtual Instruments feels like a small startup in Silicon Valley. The questions were pretty tough, even though the role was just DevOps.

I was really impressed with Virtual Instrument's interview process. From the recruiter reaching out to the final offer, everything was super organized. After dealing with some unprofessional companies, Virtual Instruments stood out because I had a great feeling after my interviews. I really wanted this job after talking to everyone. The technical interview was tough with coding, data structures, and multi-threading questions. They also threw in some logic and puzzle questions. It was good that it wasn't too easy, because I always wonder if I'm working with really smart people if I pass interviews too easily. This interview was challenging enough that I had to really think. The interviewers were engaging and gave constructive hints if I was going the wrong way, which felt more like a discussion than an interview. My best advice is to be concise and be ready to talk about resume projects in detail, because I hate interviewing candidates who can't explain their own work. I got to see people actively discussing technical topics and working in the labs, and the atmosphere seemed relaxed and happy, not stressed. I asked about work hours and was surprised they were normal and flexible. I also enjoyed working with their recruiter; she was knowledgeable about the industry and clearly explained the company's product and market position. We even had a good chat about competitors and the storage space. She gave practical advice about startups. She really impressed me from the start. With such a great experience, Virtual Instruments was my top choice, and the offer and compensation were very attractive, making it an easy decision.
