I met with the principal at their office. It was a pretty relaxed and straightforward conversation at first, but it got progressively more challenging as we went along. I felt like I wasn't fully prepared regarding my recent medical assisting experience, which led to some weaker answers. I think I really messed up the interview.

It was a really basic, scripted interview. They asked about 5 to 8 questions and wrote down my answers. They wanted to hear my thoughts on managing a classroom, how I present and adjust curriculum for different students, and how I deal with disagreements with colleagues.

To be considered for this role, you first had to go in person for a written test (this was before COVID). If you passed that and were selected, you then had an in person interview (also pre-COVID). You might think it's for an actual job, but surprise - it's just an interview to get on a "TST list." The hiring process is really bad. Even after turning down offers from several schools, they kept calling for months. I eventually had to contact HR myself to get them to update their records. The whole hiring process for this job was a complete waste of my time. I really hope it's gotten better since I went through it.

I had an initial chat, I assume with a recruiter, and then I had a technical screening where they asked me a bunch of questions that felt more like a general get-to-know-you session than anything specific to the job. Like, 'What are your weaknesses?', 'What subject do you enjoy most and why?', 'What subject do you like least and why?', 'How do you like to spend your free time?', 'If I asked your friends to describe you, what would they say?', 'What have you read recently?', 'What has been your biggest challenge?', 'What is your definition of a good teacher?', 'What would you like to accomplish, academically or in extracurricular activities, during high school?', and 'Why did you decide to apply to this school?'. They also asked about my heating and cooling experience.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Can you describe your experience with heating and cooling systems?
