First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Virgin Money.
Financial Crime Investigator
The interview process involved introductions to the interviewers, an overview of the department's structure, a series of behavioural questions, and then some technical/role-specific questions. It concluded with a chance for me to ask questions. After the interview, I waited two months for an outcome, which was a rejection. The rejection was a generic template from someone I hadn't interacted with, expressing thanks for my effort. The communication felt impersonal, especially after the long wait.

PMO Analyst
So, I had this first chat with the PMO Manager, and then another with the HR CoS. It was pretty chill, not gonna lie, but they were really digging for specific traits like being tenacious and having a keen eye for detail. The questions were all about handling difficult PMs, my background with the value delivery framework (VDF), and my experience in budgeting and finance. They also wanted to know about my time management and prioritization skills. Basically, they're looking for straight-up answers that show you're resilient and can handle yourself, not someone who easily gets frustrated. You gotta be able to report to senior folks and know how to put together MSRs and SteerCo reports. Presentation skills are a plus, and you need to be able to work under pressure.

Business Development Manager
The team was great, everyone seemed positive and had been with VM a long time. Good vibes and they put you at ease, very honest. It was a 3-step process. First, a phone screen with the recruitment team. Then, an interview with two heads of division. They give you prep work beforehand, with a guide on what they want to know and what questions to expect. This lasted about 1 hour 20 minutes and was all behavioral questions on MS Teams. The final interview involved a 30-minute presentation (PowerPoint or flip chart) followed by an hour-long informal chat in person. This was more about understanding who you are and what you want from VM.

Customer Service Representative
The initial communication was good. The interview itself went well, with the two interviewers being very pleasant. I was extended an offer and completed an onboarding form for vetting. During this, I disclosed a prior dismissal from a job, explaining it was due to not passing a probation exam. I sent an email to Virgin detailing this. However, I heard very little for six weeks, only getting updates when I initiated contact. Communication ceased entirely. I sent a final email inquiring about a start date, as one was projected to be a week away. A few days later, they called to rescind the offer, citing dishonesty. I maintain I was upfront about everything from the beginning, even noting it on my CV. It's disappointing the process dragged on for two months, especially given the poor communication afterwards. It makes me wonder about the communication experience for current employees if this is how they treat potential hires.

“You are in a Russian roulette scenario, tied to a chair with a six-chamber gun. Two bullets are placed adjacent to each other, the cylinder is spun, and the trigger is pulled once (click). For the second pull, would you prefer the cylinder to be spun again or just pulled?”
