& Process

I have over 25 years of teaching experience, with a Master's degree and TESL certification, focusing on the ELL population. I went through the interview process but ultimately wasn't offered the job. I tried to teach at a pace suitable for a typical teacher but couldn't complete the lesson because a child wasn't grasping the concepts. My philosophy is that you should not continue a lesson if a student is struggling, which is something VIP Kids doesn't seem to follow. My students have consistently achieved the highest scores on state exams over the past decade, with my ELL students often performing the best. I'm left wondering about the credentials of the young person who conducted my interview and who makes these hiring decisions.

We start with a short 10-minute online call, then you'll have two more online interviews which involve mock lessons where you'll teach a lesson to the interviewer. It's pretty straightforward, but definitely prep for those mock lessons. They'll be looking to see if you can wrap up the lesson in the time allotted, if your lighting, internet, and camera are good, and if you use TPR and other strategies to keep students engaged. Oh, and wear an orange shirt, it's like our company uniform.

Felt like the interview went well, and I got some helpful tips from a mentor beforehand. However, the actual interview feedback didn't quite match what my mentor advised, so it seems like there wasn't a clear consensus among them. They did offer a second interview, but it was with a different age group. I decided to pass on that since I had already invested a significant amount of my personal time in the initial interview process.
