VHC Health Nurse Interview Questions
& Process

I applied online and a recruiter reached out within three days. We had a quick phone chat, and then I scheduled an interview with the nurse manager. Before meeting the manager, I had another meeting with recruitment. They gathered all my necessary paperwork (references, CPR card, etc.) and gave me some info about the hospital and benefits, which felt a bit early. Afterwards, we went to the unit, and I met the manager. The conversation with the manager was relaxed and felt more like a chat. A few days later, I interviewed with the current staff on the unit. They asked ten straightforward questions directly from a list. The whole process from applying to the final interview took about two weeks.

Got a call from a recruiter, then another recruiter a week later. Then I had an interview with a manager, but I wasn't interested in that unit, so they set up another interview on a different unit, which took another week. I interviewed with the manager and then had a peer interview. The questions were pretty basic. The staff who asked questions just read them off a sheet and seemed rushed to get back to work. The manager was nice though. I wish I'd seen the unit or shadowed, because now I see why the nurses looked stressed - they're understaffed and the workload is crazy.

It started out with their open event for new grads where you meet four hiring managers from the unit of choice, hoping they call back. It was kind of like speed dating, 7 minutes to speak with 4 managers. Because I really wanted to interview with one unit that kept being preoccupied with other people wanting to be interviewed by the same manager, I squeezed in a brief introduction and some information about myself. She wanted to know more and called me back through Human Resources to set up a formal interview with her on her unit. I was interviewed briefly by a recruiter who presented a packet of the benefits and other employee information. Then, I took a walk to the unit for a formal interview by the hiring manager. There was a peer interview from several of the staff on the floor and then a brief orientation of the unit. Do expect rotating days and nights as a new grad. Starting pay is 26.10. Great health benefits from what I read and heard from the facility. I got the job right on the spot and I accepted.
