First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vetsource.
Software Engineer
I had three interviews with the company. First, a recruiter did a quick phone call about the job. Then, I talked to the hiring manager about the role, the company, and my background. Lastly, I had an interview with a senior dev and a staff engineer, which included a simple programming test.
- Can you describe your experience with testing and event-driven architecture?
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenge or worked on a project involving testing and event-driven architecture, and explain how you overcame it.
Software Engineer
It was a three-part interview process, the interviewers were friendly, and the management seemed good, with great flexibility in scheduling. It felt like a good work culture and environment. They really prefer if your technical skillset and experience are very specific to what they're looking for, with not much room for flexibility there. It was conversational, with questions asked to assess your experience and see if you'd be a good fit.
- Could you describe your technical experience and go into more detail about the projects and technologies you've worked with?
Software Engineer
So this was a pretty long interview process. I'm a senior Java dev with over 20 years of experience and this was for a 100% remote senior Java developer role requiring 5+ years of experience. Day 1, I spoke with the recruiter and submitted my info for VetSource. Day 2, the interview was booked for the next day. Day 3, Round 1 was with the technical manager, we talked about company culture, remote work, and the company in general. Day 6, a video interview was set up with two devs and the tech manager for two days later. Day 8, Round 2 happened - we discussed my past projects and how I used various technologies. There were also some simple paired programming tasks. It went really well, I felt a good connection with them, and the tech manager said I was moving to the next stage. Day 10, a follow-up interview with execs was scheduled, and the recruiter discussed my potential start date and an in-office setup week. Day 12, Round 3 was with two executives, discussing past projects, the company, and remote work policies. Day 16, after some radio silence, they added another tech screening: an online Java test. I sent it back immediately, though I know I fumbled one question about converting integer math to FP, but I think I nailed the rest. Day 19, the recruiter called about a contract-to-hire offer due to their hesitancy with remote hires. I agreed and asked about insurance, but then the recruiter called back saying it wasn't going to happen, citing concerns about remote work or my salary expectations. I'm actually contracted now, making more with fewer benefits, and I'm looking for stability and the chance to work with animals, not just chasing money. I feel the process was confusing, especially adding a tech test after the exec interview if the answer was already no.
- What's your work history like?
- Do you have any technical questions for us?
- What's your take on remote work arrangements?
