After applying online, I had to complete a Coderbyte assessment with 30 multiple-choice questions on Python, Go, Agile, Docker, and basic networking, needing to be done in 5 minutes. Scoring well moved me to a 30-minute recruiter call about my experience and interest in the role. Then, there was a 45-minute virtual technical interview with two engineers where we worked through a Coderbyte problem. I was told the next steps would involve a system design interview focusing on technologies for different applications, followed by another behavioral interview. Communication was good and people were nice.

Technical System Design Behavioral Other

The interview process was pretty standard. It started with a chat with the hiring manager, followed by three team matching interviews with senior engineers or an architect. The interviews covered technical topics, design, and scenarios. A bit of a letdown was after all the interviews when the recruiter asked for at least three professional references. They then got back saying they couldn't reach the references provided, even though my references confirmed they had already spoken with them and given feedback. I gave a few more references, and surprisingly, the hiring manager then asked these professional references to apply for the same role and explore opportunities with the company. This felt like a conflict of interest and was disheartening. Also, the recruiter didn't follow up much after the interviews about a potential offer, which isn't great.

They did two screening calls. First one was more about past experience and if I would fit culturally. Second one was technical screening. They asked basic algorithm questions and also some deeper java questions about multi-threading and hashing. Then there was an onsite interview with 4 people. It started with a coding exercise using their notebook with Eclipse IDE. It was a very short 45 minute exercise where I had to read values from a file and do some simple processing. After that, I had three meetings with engineers and management.
