First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Versapay.
Senior Software Engineer
It was a standard developer interview process back in 2019. It started with a phone interview, followed by an in-person technical interview with a group of managers where I had to design the Presto system and answer some Ruby questions. The managers were sharp and seemed like good people. Then, I had a one-on-one with the hiring manager to see if I was a good fit. I got an offer from Versapay a few days later. But, I actually got another offer from a similar company on the same day as my Versapay interview, so I took that one right away just to be safe. Maybe it would have been different if I interviewed earlier.
- Can you explain the inner workings of ActiveRecord?
Knowledge Manager
It was a complete joke. I spoke with the hiring manager on September 7th. She mentioned she'd been doing phone screens all day. We discussed the role and my experience, and it was clear I was qualified, even a bit overqualified with my years of experience and management background in knowledge. She said I'd proceed to meet her and her boss. I heard nothing for the rest of the week. Then today, September 12th (5 days later), I got a generic rejection email saying they'd already hired someone. It's laughable how fast they were. I doubt they hired someone they knew and only offered the job based on merit after phone screens. The hiring manager used the word 'synergy' in her first email, which should have been a red flag.
- What kind of culture are you looking for?
- What salary range are you wanting?

Product Insights Analyst
The whole thing took about a month and had 4 stages. First was the HR screen, then I interviewed with the Hiring Manager which was great. After that, there was a technical assessment and then a panel interview with the Product Lead and some team folks. I was pretty sure I'd get to the last round, but then I didn't hear anything for a week, and then just got a generic message saying they were moving on with other people. I thought I deserved better feedback after putting in so many hours and talking to 5 different people. Still no word back. It felt like the Hiring Manager and Product Lead weren't on the same page about what they needed, which felt like a waste of time.
- Can you walk me through your previous role?
- Tell me about your responsibilities in your past job.

People Operations
I really liked my interview experience with Versapay! I started by chatting with the talent team/hiring manager. Then I spoke with the rest of the people team. After that, I had a final interview with the head of the department. All the interviews were by phone or video call because the team is working remotely right now. The team did a good job explaining what to expect at each step and always kept me updated. The interviewers were prepared and asked good questions that fit the role. It felt more like a conversation, which I liked because I could share more about myself and what I'm looking for. Overall, I got a good feel for the opportunity and I'm excited to join!
- Can you elaborate on your experience and how it relates to the position?
- Of all the positions you've held, which one did you enjoy the most and what made it your favorite?
