Test Design Engineer
I had my first round, which was pretty straightforward. The interviewer mentioned she wasn't too familiar with engineering specifics but would pass my responses to the manager. I think it was on Teams. She gave a good amount of detail about the location and the responsibilities of the role.
- Could you describe your approach to the testing process?
Engineer
I applied for a specialized engineering position through their online form. About a week later, I got a call for a screening interview. I agreed, and the next day received an invite for a screening interview a week after that. The call itself, which started late, was a 30-minute chat where the recruiter hadn't looked at my resume and seemed unsure about the job I'd applied for. Despite this, I felt positive and was told I'd hear about technical and panel interviews later that week. I followed up right away but heard nothing for a week, so I followed up again, still no response. Two more weeks passed, and I got a generic rejection saying my 'experience and skills are a match for this role however we are not moving forward as we are looking for someone with experience in this role', which was confusing given my 10 years of experience in a similar role at a major company. I asked for clarification and feedback but have been ghosted since.
- Can you describe your background related to this role?
- Which specific role are you applying for?
- Could you discuss a project you've worked on?
Network Engineer
The interview process was quite unprofessional. After applying online, a recruiter from Talent Acquisitions reached out for a phone interview for the following week. I confirmed my availability, and they scheduled a call for the next day, but it was postponed to the following week due to a meeting. The following week, the call was again missed, and after I reached out on Friday, they finally responded Monday, apologizing and rescheduling for Thursday or Friday. The call happened after I followed up, and it lasted only 15-20 minutes instead of the scheduled 30. The interviewer seemed uninterested and lacked technical knowledge, even questioning my age as a reason for lack of experience. They focused on my desire to gain experience and implied I would leave after. I received a rejection email the following week, which wasn't surprising given the interviewer's apparent disinterest.
- Can you describe the network-related projects you have worked on?
- Could you tell me a bit about yourself?
- In your opinion, what is this job like?
Business Analyst
I applied and a recruiter got in touch pretty fast. We did a phone interview, but honestly, she didn't seem very experienced or genuinely enthusiastic. I wasn't really feeling the vibe during this phone screen with her, but I told myself I wouldn't be working directly with her anyway. I found myself having to ask her to repeat herself and prompt her for more details because she wasn't making things clear – maybe she was new, who knows. Even though I have a ton of experience (15+ years) and they apparently have several openings they can't seem to fill, they didn't even move me along to the hiring manager for a shot. So, I guess it just wasn't meant to be, or maybe it's just not a company I'd want to be a part of.
- What are some basic screening questions you typically ask candidates?
- Can you tell me about your general experience?
- What are your motivations for applying to this role?
