First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Verkada.
Embedded Software Engineer Intern
It began with a recruiter call, followed by two technical interviews focusing on multithreading and socket programming. Then there was a hiring manager round. However, I didn't make it to the hiring manager round.
- How would you multithread a sensor input?
- How can you make a blocking function non-blocking?
Embedded Software Engineer
It was pretty straightforward, a recruiting call and then a first round interview where I had to show what I know about concurrency and stuff. Specifically, it was about a blocking thread that I need to get accurate results from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUqZDOP5uzQ&list=PLTjcBkvRBqGGbSckyAGLTy05sbPPl6dJA&index=23
- I highly recommend watching this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUqZDOP5uzQ&list=PLTjcBkvRBqGGbSckyAGLTy05sbPPl6dJA&index=23 It helps a lot.
Embedded Software Engineer Intern
I applied normally, got ghosted for a bit, then a recruiter hit me up on LinkedIn later on. She kept rescheduling the initial phone screen, often canceling last minute. After that, I had to do an online assessment in C++. Then there was a phone screen with the recruiter, followed by a 1-hour technical interview. While the recruiter was pleasant, the constant cancellations were a bit unprofessional. The actual technical interview involved coding a multithreaded function or two, which didn't feel super relevant to embedded systems. The interviewer also had a strong accent and we just dove straight into the coding problem without much intro. It felt like a test rather than a chance to show what I can do or discuss anything else.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What motivates your interest in Verkada?
- Code a non-blocking API around an existing blocking API.
