& Process

It started with a recruiter chat. Then I had an interview with two managers. They asked some pretty standard behavioral questions like "Tell me about a time when you...". Some light research beforehand would have prepared me for these. After that, they asked some technical questions. They weren't too difficult, but there was one topic I wasn't totally confident discussing, especially with people who clearly knew their stuff, so I just mentioned I was familiar with the concept but didn't know enough to explain it in detail.

The interview experience was quite unpleasant and the interviewers seemed to have a lot of ego. I had several people on the phone asking me questions that seemed like they were straight out of a textbook. The people asking the questions weren't very welcoming and didn't seem interested in getting to know my personality at all.

I applied in mid August and after a few days, I got an invite for a video interview. In this interview, I had to record myself answering behavioral questions. I could re-record as many times as I wanted. It required business attire, but it was worth it. A week later, I had a phone interview. It wasn't a typical interview, they just asked about my geographical preferences, job eligibility (like visa sponsorship needs), and if I was interviewing with other companies. Three weeks after that, I was invited for a super day at Verizon HQ in New Jersey. They gave us a tour of the campus and facilities. Then, we had to work with another interviewee to solve a challenge problem together. I think this was to check teamwork, how we interact with strangers, and critical thinking. I was there in the morning, and we were provided snacks. Once we got to the interview site, we waited about 40 minutes for things to start. Everyone was friendly, so we got along fast, but it might be tough if you're shy. After the challenge problem, there was a 2-on-1 interview with two HR managers. The questions were like the video interview ones and it lasted about 30 minutes. They said results would be in 2 weeks, but I got my offer after 5 weeks. I applied for Network Engineering Intern but they offered me an IT Development Intern role, saying I fit better due to my programming experience. Apparently, Network Engineering Intern is more hardware-focused, not software. All the interview questions were behavioral, so I don't think they needed another interview for the IT position since intern interviews don't have technical questions.
