& Process

I had a recruiter call first, then a technical interview over Zoom with an engineer where I had to write some Python code. Then there was a system design interview, and after that, I interviewed with HR and a senior manager.

even though I didn't get the job, I really liked how the company handled the hiring. They were great at communicating, always letting me know what was happening and what to expect next. The interviews themselves were good too; the team was professional and friendly, which made me feel relaxed. So, even though I wasn't picked, I appreciated the chance to interview with them and would tell others to go for it if they want a smooth and clear hiring experience.

It was a really long interview process. I talked to like 5 or 6 different people, including the recruiter multiple times, the person who would be my direct manager, HR, and even someone really high up, maybe the CEO. Everyone was really nice, but also super busy, making the whole thing drag on. I think I was probably on the way to getting an offer, but I got a better offer from another company, so I went with that. I get that they want to be sure someone's a good fit, but in this competitive market, you can't make people go through such a long process without risking losing them. There was a big presentation in the middle to show I understood the technical side and could present well, but it felt like they expected me to know the platform inside and out. I spent a few hours learning it to show my interest and that I was serious, but then they hit me with these really specific, tricky technical questions that felt like a trap. Their help site was pretty bad, which was a bad sign and made preparing for the presentation harder. Again, everyone was nice, the product is interesting, and the market is growing, but I just couldn't face another interview.

Verbit's recruiter reached out, and they were really nice, helpful, and upfront. I had to do a writing test of 750 words, which the marketing director apparently really liked. Then, I had a video call with the marketing director that lasted over an hour. Mostly, it felt like they were asking me a lot of questions with not much back-and-forth. They asked me how much notice I'd give my current employer, and when I said two weeks, which is pretty standard, they scoffed. I'm not totally sure why they didn't move forward with me, but just talking to the marketing director was enough for me to decide against this company.
