I applied for this HR role through my college's Career Services and got a call about a week later from an HR Manager. I went to NYC for the interview and noticed everyone dressed in black with their hair in a tight bun. People there were professional and kept to themselves. I was directed to the right floor and met the current HR intern who asked standard questions. It wasn't super conversational, but she seemed to be following a script. That same night, I got an email asking me to come back for another interview with the Manager the next week. By the following week, I had another offer, and I wish I could have met with both the intern and the manager on the same day. If that had happened and I got an offer, I might have chosen to work with Vera Wang.

I had an initial chat with HR, but honestly, they seemed a bit out of their depth regarding marketing specifics. Even after I detailed my digital marketing experience, they didn't offer much feedback and just moved on to standard behavioral questions. The questions themselves weren't tough, but the interviewer was very quiet, not responding to anything I said. Near the end, she mentioned the company's dress code is all black, like Vera Wang's style. It happened that I was wearing all black, but I did have a brown bag with me.

The interviewer called the role "assistant" even though it was advertised as a manager role. They were not friendly or professional, which was a poor representation of the brand. The interviewer refused to shake my hand and mocked my resume and experience, despite me having the qualifications. While I understand the need to assess fit, and I realized within moments that I would not work well with this specific hiring manager, it is unacceptable to be rude and unprofessional for 15 minutes.

So I had this initial interview with an HR person, not the actual design team. She wasn't the warmest and seemed to try and be intimidating, which was odd since she was the one who asked me to come in. The office felt really quiet and kind of stressful, I didn't get a good feeling from the interview or the place itself.
