First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Veolia.
Specialist
I asked 3 generic questions to the hiring manager, one about the recent M&A. I expected a certain response, but the manager was surprised and gave a different answer, which seemed like a red flag as there was no change after the M&A. Also, the job description was too brief and the hiring manager contradicted it during the interview, making it feel like they were questioning my understanding of the role. I believe the JD is essential info that the hiring manager should provide. Some practices mentioned as 'holistic' by the manager are actually basic practices I've seen before. There's a difference between truly holistic and just basic. I'm glad I could identify these red flags. Note that there are two business units with similar functions, and in M&A, the acquirer usually has more manpower.
- The interview went off-topic, so the questions asked are not relevant.
Employer Branding Specialist
I had a phone interview with a recruiter first. Then, a Zoom interview with someone from the Communications Department. The last interview was in Boston with several people from HR, recruiting, and Communications. There wasn't much communication, and it felt unclear. After each interview, they said they'd be in touch about the next steps, but it took weeks to hear back unless I reached out. After talking to about 6 people over 2 months, I got a generic email saying I didn't get the job, which didn't acknowledge the time I spent interviewing. It was the same kind of email you get when you first apply and they say you aren't a good fit.
- Can you explain how your background and experience align with the requirements of this role?
Environmental Specialist
I was already working onsite with another company. I mentioned to the supervisor for Veolia that I was interested in working for the company. A month later, I sat down with the project manager and we talked for about a half hour or so. That being said, my interview experience would be different than the typical interview because I was already working as a contractor for a period of time. So the interview was just more of a formality. The supervisor already vouched for my work ethic and general demeanor.
- Can you tell me about yourself?
- Do you think you would enjoy this type of work?
