Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Venterra Realty.
Property Manager
First, there was a recruiter call to go over my work history, skills, and general competency. Then, I had an in-person interview with a manager. This part included a written test, which they call their "Culture Fit" interview. After the test, we had a one-on-one chat focused on seeing if my personality and values matched the company's, rather than just my skills. The main thing Venterra wants to see is that employees value going above and beyond for customers. This interview was pretty long (mine took 2 hours) and had some really direct questions, some people find them a bit too personal. Lastly, there was a "second" opinion interview, which could be in person or over the phone. Basically, if the first interviewer really liked me, they'd have a second person confirm their decision.
- What would be your first steps in the initial weeks after joining?
- Could you elaborate on your previous work experiences and honed skill sets?
- Tell me about an instance where you exceeded expectations in customer service.
Property Manager
After I applied online, a recruiter reached out via email. We arranged a convenient time for a Skype interview to discuss the role. It was short but let me highlight my industry background. The recruiter mentioned they'd pass my info to the property manager for an onsite interview. Within three days, I heard back to schedule it. When I arrived, I was greeted and given a timed test (personality and logic) to see if I'd fit with the team. After a brief wait, I met the manager who followed a script for questions. They mentioned other candidates were being considered and I'd be updated on the next steps or if the position was filled. I haven't heard back in over two weeks.
- Can you share a story about a positive customer service experience?
- Could you describe a negative customer service experience?
- What does your supervisor consider your greatest strengths?
Property Manager
I applied online, and then took an online basic-knowledge test and submitted my resume. After that, the recruiting manager from Houston emailed me to set up a Skype interview, which lasted about 20 minutes and wasn't too hard. Then, about a week later, I interviewed with the property manager at the location. When I got there, I took another 15-minute basic-knowledge test, filled out a job application, and met with the property manager for over an hour. The questions were pretty basic, mostly about my past jobs, experience, and personality. The property manager then asked if I could meet with someone else right away for a second opinion, which I did. Those questions were mainly about personality and past experiences, nothing too tough. The whole thing took a little over two weeks, and I'm waiting for the background check now. Once that's cleared, I'll have a phone interview with the regional manager from Houston, as all new hires need their approval. After that, they said I'll have a drug test to finalize things.
- Would your personal single-family residential homes that you manage constitute a conflict of interest?
- What was the most challenging task you encountered in your prior role?
