Consultant
The interview process had 3 parts: a phone call, a technical assessment where they asked about financial statements and Excel. I was hoping to gauge the company culture, but it seemed like the product wasn't great and the role would require managing over 9 projects simultaneously and acting as the Product Manager. I'm glad I didn't get accepted.
- Tell me about your background and experience.
- Given three identical white balls that look the same weight, how would you determine which one is the heaviest using a scale?
Consultant
The interview process was three stages long, and it started off great but didn't end so well. First, there was a 30-minute recruiter phone screening where they asked questions and I could ask about the role or Vena. The second stage was with the Hiring Manager, focusing on my past work experience, behavioral questions, and some Excel and finance questions. The final stage was with a Senior Executive/Director, which was mostly behavioral and about past work experience. They have a pre-formatted way to communicate decisions and offer feedback, but they never actually share honest feedback, always leaving the loop open. I really think the HR team should share some feedback notes during the process.
- What would you do in a situation where a customer was being difficult?
- How have you handled situations with delayed project timelines?
- Can you tell me about your previous work experience?
Consultant
The interview and info gathering at Vena took way longer than it should have, since they should've known upfront I wasn't their type of candidate. Vena's product is good, and I know some people there are happy, and my background matched what they needed. But, they never listed salary ranges on their site or job postings, so I did some digging before applying. A friend told me to join a webinar about resumes - I did that. I also went to an info session focused on the Consultant role. In both events, recruiters couldn't explain how the Consultant role differed from onboarding or customer service. I figured recruiters would want to find the best people for the whole company and would know the roles. In both webinars, speakers dodged questions about salary in the chat, even though the speaker at the resume event said we should ask about salary. After the resume webinar, we got invited to a mock interview - which was cool. Even though I said I was interested in the Consultant role, my mock interview was with someone who didn't hire for that team. I still don't know the salary range. She sent me to her colleague who recruits for Consultants. It was only after the fourth time I talked to someone at the company that the Consultant recruiter mentioned salary ranges and the Consultant and supervisory roles. I got rejected ten days later. It was annoying how much time this took from me and them, when it could have been avoided if they were just upfront, direct, and knew their stuff internally. I think they're moving too fast and the recruiters are too focused on their specific teams to help the whole company out.
- What is the salary range you are looking for?
