Had a phone screen to go over my background with the Corporate Recruiter. Then, I went in person to interview with the Manager and two members of the team. Two of the team members asked for my resume. They didn't really set up a schedule for the interviews.

So the interview process was pretty alarming, to be honest. It started with a recruiter call where they didn't even bring up salary or the role details, which was weird. Then I met with the hiring manager for some basic questions about my background and if I'd fit in. After that, I spoke with the Director, and it was pretty much the same kind of questions. The Director even admitted they weren't sure about the next steps, which was a big red flag. I did get an offer, but it was at the lower end of the pay range and was for hybrid work, not remote like we initially discussed. They said because I lived close enough to an office, it had to be hybrid, and I'd have to sort it out with the VP of Customer Success, whose meeting got cancelled. When I mentioned my previous salary and asked if they could meet the top of the range, they pulled the offer. The recruiter said the hiring manager was worried I'd leave if they paid me the top of the range. It's crazy to me that they'd be so short-sighted, and it's even weirder to rescind an offer just because I tried to negotiate. Plus, they want someone with years of experience but are only willing to pay entry-level wages.

So first up was a quick phone screen, then I had a video chat with a couple of managers. After that, they had me do a written assignment acting as if I was already in the role. The final step was another video interview, this time with the hiring manager. I thought things were going well, and they mentioned a final chat with a current employee to get a feel for the team, which they said would be set up fast. But then, just two days later, I got a generic email saying they went with other candidates and would keep my info on file.
