I applied online for the SF office and heard back from SF HR about two weeks later to schedule a Skype interview with the hiring team in NY for the following week. Two sets of two interviewers interviewed me over a shaky connection and my struggling computer. I would have preferred Google Hangouts because my Mac can't handle Skype well, but it is what it is. The interviewers were younger than me, but in roles slightly above entry-level Community Manager. One interviewer, on screen left, mostly led the conversation. The two interviews combined lasted about an hour. The interviewers were chill, but the interview turned into a casual Skype chat where they focused on specific things I said or did. Some topics discussed that I felt were irrelevant included: where I'm from and how I ended up in California (perhaps due to my mixed race and ethnic name, though I doubt it was discriminatory, just not relevant to the job, and it came up three times). They also asked about how I liked SF and California and being Californian (maybe because they were from the East Coast?). They inquired about my typical weekends in San Francisco (I actually live in the Bay Area). One interviewer started talking about her book log, which was unexpected. I think they were trying to gauge how 'cultured' I am based on my responses, which I found funny given my background of growing up poor, getting into a decent college, double majoring, living abroad, watching 30 Rock, and being able to hustle hard, despite ultimately not getting the job. I'm pretty sure writing this reveals my identity, but oh well. It seems they want candidates to be cultured like a Renaissance person. Good luck though. On a positive note, the HR person in SF was very nice and transparent with my questions before and after the interview, even though I didn't get an offer.

I applied online because I was a big fan of Gary Vaynerchuk and really wanted to work with his company. About a week later, I got an email to set up a skype interview. I had two skype interviews, one with hiring people in New York and another with the community manager supervisors in San Francisco. The process felt like a first date, focused on getting to know me and my personality and work style, with very few technical questions. I got the offer, but unfortunately, the finances didn't work out.

The interview process was pretty easy. I met with 3 team members who first had me fill out a questionnaire about different social media scenarios. After about 20 minutes, they came back and we chatted. They asked about my favorite social media accounts, my favorite TV shows (weirdly), and what brand I'd most like to work for. The vibe was good and it seemed to go well. About a week later, HR emailed saying they liked me and would be in touch once they sorted out some account logistics. I never heard back, so I followed up a month later and was told they were still 'figuring things out' and would reach out when they knew more. It's been 4 months now. While I get the rolling application idea, VaynerMedia's execution leaves candidates hanging. I can't wait forever, and they should be upfront if there's nothing concrete. Super disappointing experience!
