First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Varicent.
Software Tester
The whole thing took like 3 weeks. Started with a quick assessment test. Then there was a 1-hour zoom chat covering HR stuff and one tech question. Finished with a 1.5-hour interview that had more HR questions and some tougher technical questions.
- Can you give me some test cases for a calculator?
- Tell me a bit about yourself.
- Do you have questions about REST APIs and HTTP methods?
Software Tester
The interview was supposed to be 30 minutes but went on longer than the 1 hour stated in the email, which made me feel like they weren't going to hire me anyway. They mentioned that "QA" and programmers "think differently" and questioned why CS/CP students wouldn't already know about UI, UX, system processes, and use cases. They also said "QA" sees "the bigger picture." I was asked what education I could pursue to improve my chances if I reapplied, and I basically said everything already covered in a CS/CP program. It was also stated that programming isn't used in this job, and it sounds like only talking skills are needed. I have no idea who they're looking for, but it's definitely not me.
- What do you value in a work environment?
- What additional education would be beneficial if I were to reapply?
- How do you see the differences between QA and programmers?
Software Tester
Right after applying, they sent a simple one-question coding quiz. It felt like they were trying to copy Amazon's interview style, but not very well. Then, there was a 1-hour Zoom interview focusing on 'why hire you'. Another coding question followed, asking to find the maximum number in an integer array. The final round was about 2 hours long and had many behavioral questions, some quite silly. There was also a coding question about designing a deck of cards and how to shuffle it. After all this, the interviewer revealed they only use manual testing, not automated. It's baffling why they asked so many software engineering questions if they just wanted manual testers. I got rejected the next day. This company isn't worth the time or effort.
- How would you test a login website?
- How would you test a calculator?
- What makes you the best candidate for this role?
