Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vanta.
Product Manager
It was a really positive experience. The recruiter was fantastic and super supportive, helping me through everything. The process felt pretty standard for interviews. It went like this: Recruiter screen, then the hiring manager screen, followed by two on-site phases. The first on-site covered engineering partnership, design partnership, and values. The second on-site had a case study and leadership discussion. Finally, they made an offer.
- Can you describe an instance where you had to manage a conflict with an engineering partner?
Product Manager
So I was first contacted by the recruiter, and got through their screen and the hiring manager interview. Then there were 3 more cross-functional interviews. I followed up with the recruiter after not hearing back for a few days and was told feedback was good and they were prepping for the next step. Then the recruiter reached out again saying the role was being re-orged and I wasn't moving forward because I didn't demonstrate a specific skill that the new hiring manager wanted. The recruiter suggested maybe talking to the new hiring manager about it, and then just ghosted me. Honestly, for a company that talks a lot about culture, this was pretty unprofessional.
- Can you design a travel product?
Product Manager
My interaction with the recruiter as an active candidate was great, and the interviews themselves were thoughtful and well-organized. The recruiter even called me to let me know when they decided not to move forward with me as a candidate, which was a very kind gesture. Unfortunately, in spite of the hours I invested in their process, the recruiter ghosted me when I requested feedback and politely followed up. I even provided them with an out asking that they just let me know if it's their policy not to provide feedback. This final lack of follow-through marred the entire interview process, making it difficult to learn from the experience.
- Can you share an instance where you had a disagreement with someone on the engineering team?
- Describe a situation where your opinion clashed with an engineering colleague.
- Tell me about a time you had a difference of opinion with an engineer.
