Behavioral Presentation

I met with the hiring manager Meg and she was amazing. She started the company when she was younger and has done very well for herself through the business. I was excited when I got a call back for the second interview. I was unsure on how many candidates she got a chance to meet with, but there were a couple of other people there for interviews when I got there as well. In the second interview I was a little caught off guard by the location, but kept an open mind nonetheless. I met with a campaign manager and got the bulk of the information. It was a lot of information, but after sitting and thinking about things it all sounded really good and simple enough. You commit a year to learning and doing what they tell you the way they tell you and you're a business owner. Obviously it is a lot of work in between, but the bigger picture is totally worth it.

I only had the first interview round, but they wanted me to come back for a second "event interview." I declined after reading reviews because the "president" Meg, misrepresented the job. I thought it was a real marketing and communications role with press release writing and marketing plan development, but it's actually six months of pushing products at Sam's Club for their "events." I saw reviews about a 9-10 day work week with two days off, and bad commission pay, so I knew it wasn't for me. I'm really mad the company misrepresented the job in the posting. It feels totally unethical. If I had known the real job, I wouldn't have driven two hours to Raleigh for a 10-minute interview.

I first got a phone call about the position, but since I wanted to relocate, they said they'd call back in 3-4 weeks if it was still open. They called me for an interview about a month later. I'd read reviews and was a bit nervous, and they noticed. They told me I'd know by 5 pm that day if I'd get a second interview. I got a call the next day and accepted the second interview. They sent me an email with details on where to meet for an 'event.' I called the office that morning to cancel because I was still hesitant. But, I still got a call from the person I was supposed to meet with, confirming. I told her I had called and cancelled. There was some confusion because she wasn't told. The whole experience was just like the other reviews said.

I sent my resume on LinkedIn and then the HR Assistant called me. Normally these screening calls are set up beforehand, so this was a bit of a surprise. After the phone call, they wanted me to come in for an in-person interview with the HR Manager. I saw reviews online that made me think twice. It turned out this wasn't really for a promotions assistant/event coordinator role, but more like a sales job at Sam's Club making minimum wage and working 7-10 days a week. I decided to cancel the interview because the job was described incorrectly.
