Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Valero.
Accounting Associate
There were 3 interviews in total. The first one was a phone call with the recruiter, mainly to talk about salary and the job. Then, there was a second interview over Zoom with a panel of 3 people. This one involved behavioral questions and also questions about my resume and what a typical day would look like. I was supposed to have a third interview in person, but it didn't happen.
- Can you share an instance where you had a conflict with a colleague and how you resolved it?
- Tell me about a time when you didn't succeed in a leadership role.
Senior Accountant
The interview process involved a panel interview where I was asked 9 behavioral questions. After that, I had another interview with the hiring manager, and then a final phone interview with the hiring manager.
- Can you tell me about a situation where your listening skills were important on the job?
Accountant
I had a panel interview with the hiring manager and some accounting managers. It was pretty informal. They asked me questions about my background and how I could do the job. I've used C.A.R. and S.T.A.R. methods before, so this wasn't too hard. Looking back, formal interviews might be better for companies to pick the right people.
- Can you tell me about any gaps in your employment history?
- What is your proficiency level with SAP?
