Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vail Resorts.

The interview process had a recruiter screen, an interview with the hiring manager, 2 panel interviews, and a final round with a case study. My recruiter was unprofessional from the start, missing our first interview and making me reschedule. After my panel interviews, communication dropped off. My recruiter ignored my follow-ups, so I had to reach out to the hiring manager. The recruiter would give little bits of info and promise updates that never came. After my last interview, I heard nothing for 2 weeks. When I followed up, she said they went with someone else. After nearly 2 months and 5 interview rounds, I deserved more than a generic rejection. I feel like I would’ve been ghosted if I didn’t keep following up. If you want a respectful and transparent process, this isn't the place.
- What makes you want to work at this company?

Applied online and then got contacted by HR for an initial 30min phone screen, which I felt went really well. HR was upfront about the salary range, which seemed on the lower end for my experience and the Denver area, but I appreciated their transparency. After that, the hiring manager (HM) conducted a 30min phone interview, which also seemed to go well enough to advance. I was then given a case study to complete about a week before my ~4hr on-site interview. The on-site involved meeting with the HM first (which I thought was just okay), followed by interviews with other team members and stakeholders, which I felt went much better. I was informed of the decision promptly as promised. I really liked how responsive and timely both HR and the HM were throughout the process. It was disappointing not to receive any constructive feedback on why I wasn't selected, especially since HR mentioned they had good feedback from my interviews and wanted to keep me in mind for future roles. Although new positions did open up, I wasn't contacted. Perhaps they had a high volume of strong applicants. The company culture seemed positive, with an emphasis on ownership and celebrating accomplishments, rather than just doing the bare minimum. There's also a focus on team-building, with potential community service opportunities and perks like free soda and ski-related benefits.
- Can you share an instance where you had to present findings that were not well-received or were unpopular?
Analyst
The interview process started with a screening interview with HR. They asked basic questions to ensure I matched with the job description. I then had about 5-7 individual interviews with team members, managers and members from other teams I'd be working with. The process was managed by an HR person. Overall, it was a positive experience.
- Were you asked if you have an entrepreneurial spirit?
