First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Vacasa.
Software Engineer
The questions were fair, but some moments were casual to the point of less professional, which pushed me away from the company. I wouldn't dismiss them, but I'm hesitant to reapply to another team.
- Were you asked to build architecture diagrams?
Software Engineer
The first two interviews went well, but then there was a super long wait, like over a month, between rounds with no word. I tried to follow up for feedback, but the hiring team totally ghosted me. My emails asking for feedback have been ignored for more than a month now. Honestly, the whole thing felt disorganized and negative, like they didn't respect my time or the people they interview. No empathy at all.
- Could you tell me about a project you were involved in?
- Can you answer some fundamental questions about system design?
Software Engineer
I had an on-site screen with the recruiter first, then a phone screen with the hiring manager. After that, there was an on-site technical interview which had three 30-minute interviews back-to-back: first with two developers, then with a designer and product manager, and finally with the engineering director. No actual coding was involved; it was more of a discussion-based sanity check of my technical background and some behavioral questions.
- Can you describe a challenging problem you successfully resolved?
