First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Registered Nurse
Got an email from the nurse recruiter a couple weeks after applying online asking about references and when I could interview. Since I was flying in from out of state, they were cool and set up a time that worked with my flight. The actual interview was in the department I applied for, with two RNs asking questions. They were super friendly and not intimidating at all, which was great for a new grad. Mostly situational/behavioral questions. They let me know when to expect a call and thanked me for coming in person. The interview took about an hour. Got an email with a job offer two weeks later.
- Can you describe how you actively ensure patient safety?
- What would be your course of action if you discovered your patient unresponsive upon arrival for your shift?
Registered Nurse
Went through a few interviews, starting with HR and then moving to the unit staff. First was HR, which involved a phone interview and then an in-person one. After that, there were 3-4 behavioral tests. Passing those led to the next stage. Second, the unit management interviewed me in person. If that went well, I met with the team I'd be working with, chosen by management. If both managers and team approved, I moved on. Third, an offer call from unit managers or HR to talk salary and terms. Acceptance followed if terms were agreeable.
- The most difficult questions asked were the typical ones you get asked on most job interviews.
Registered Nurse
Got contacted by a recruiter quickly and had an interview with the hiring manager set up for that same week. I had to get 5 references completed before the interview. It's been weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the recruiter. Emails and voicemails haven't been answered or acknowledged. Honestly, some kind of response after an interview should be given. Even a simple 'we're still deciding' or 'you're not a fit' would be fine. Just ignoring requests for communication is really unprofessional.
- What are your long-term career aspirations?
