I had a phone interview and after that I was scheduled a 1 hour zoom interview, but nobody showed up. After an hour of waiting and emailing back and forth, they told me the senior engineer was busy. We rescheduled, but a week later I got an email saying they are no longer recruiting.

I have interviewed at uShip multiple times over the last two decades (in 2004, 2015, and 2019), and each experience has been vastly different and ultimately a waste of my time. I've reached the final stages twice, only to be rejected due to a lack of experience with specific technologies, despite my extensive background in others. I've even consulted with their technology executives and offered solutions for their business challenges. In summary, I've been consistently disappointed by uShip, feeling my time was often misspent.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • I was asked to write code on a whiteboard while the team observed and offered suggestions, which I then incorporated. Some of it evolved into pseudocode as I didn't have a keyboard.
  • The 2019 application involved initial online questions focused heavily on cloud technologies and industry jargon.

Technical Behavioral

It was a really chill vibe, not like a typical formal interview at all. They even held it at a cafe because their building's plumbing was being worked on. They hit me with two software questions, which weren't meant to be tricky but more to gauge how I think. The questions basically flowed from my questionnaire answers and resume. The technical questions did force me to think quickly, so I didn't answer the way I wanted to at first, but it was really not that bad. Like I said, they just want to see how you approach a problem. There are more than one answer that would be considered correct.

Confirmed questions2 questions
  • The technical questions required quick thinking and I didn't initially answer as I'd hoped, but it wasn't too bad; they're interested in your problem-solving approach, and multiple answers are acceptable.
  • The technical questions tested my quick thinking, and while my first answers weren't ideal, the interviewers focused on my thought process, acknowledging that there isn't a single correct answer.
