& Process

The interview process focused on evaluating my tech skills and my knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and government contracting regulations. After the interview, there was a significant waiting period of about 45 days due to HR processes, but overall, it was a smooth experience despite the length.

I applied through on-campus recruiting. After my resume was selected, I was invited to interview at Washington Navy Yard. Upon arrival at 9 am, there was a brief presentation by a recruiter and some employees, covering job details and allowing for questions. I was then given the option to interview immediately or schedule it later, and I chose to proceed right away. A panel of about six individuals from different Navy agencies conducted the interviews. The questions were typical interview queries about my strengths, weaknesses, and teamwork experience. The whole thing took around 3 hours. A few weeks later, I got a job offer via phone call. I later learned they collectively decide which agency extends the offer.

The Navy has had shortages in acquisition career fields, so since I already have experience in this area, it was a matter of getting my resume in front of the right people. It took me about a year of repeatedly applying, and finally my resume was chosen by someone who was already a contracts specialist and found my resume through a friend. She referred me, and then about a month later, I received an interview.
